Overview
Frontline Management plays an important role in developing and maintaining effective, positive working relationships in internal and external environments so that customers, suppliers and the organisation achieve outputs/outcomes.
Working with teams and groups is a large part of the Frontline Managers’ daily activities. They have a key role in leading, participating in, facilitating and empowering work teams/groups within the context of the organisation. They play a prominent part in motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing team members and in achieving team cohesion.
Who will benefit?
Any member of an organisation including first level managers, team leaders, coordinators and supervisors who have an active involvement in managing people and empowering work teams.

Draw together, communicate and receive information and ideas
- Collect information associated with the achievement of work responsibilities from appropriate sources.
- Review appropriateness of communication of ideas and information to the audience.
- Consider social and cultural diversity of communications.
- Examine how to gather valuable information and ideas from internal and external sources.
Develop trust and confidence
- Describe the importance of treating people with integrity, respect and empathy.
- Determine how the organisation’s social, ethical and business standards are used to develop and maintain effective relationships.
- Develop strategies to gain and maintain trust and confidence from colleagues, customers and suppliers.
- Determine the importance of adjusting interpersonal styles and methods to accommodate social and cultural environments.
Develop and maintain networks and relationships
- Review the importance of identifying and building networks and relationships.
- Examine how networks and other work relationships provide benefits for the team and organisation.
- Determine how action is taken to maintain effective working relationships.
Manage difficulties to achieve positive outcomes
- Identify and analyse problems and take action to rectify the situation within organisational and relevant legislative requirements.
- Guide and support colleagues to resolve work difficulties.
- Manage poor work performance within organisational processes.
- Manage conflict constructively within organisational processes.

Plan for meeting work team outcomes
- Consult with team members to establish team purpose, roles, responsibilities and accountabilities in accordance with organisational goals, plans and objectives.
- Establish with team members expected outcomes, outputs, key performance indicators and goals.
- Support team members in meeting expected outcomes.
- Encourage and support team members to assess own competencies and to fulfil identified learning and development needs.
- Encourage and support team members to share their skills and knowledge and develop a learning culture within the work team.
Develop team cohesion
- Provide opportunities for team members input into planning, decision making and operational aspects of work team.
- Encourage and support team members to take responsibility for own work and to assist each other in completing required roles and responsibilities.
- Provide feedback to team members to encourage, value and reward individual and team efforts and contributions.
- Identify, address and action issues concerns and problems within the team.
Participate in and facilitate the work team
- Actively encourage team members to participate in team activities and communication processes.
- Encourage and support individuals and teams to take individual and joint responsibility for their actions.
- Provide support to team to identify and resolve problems which impede its performance.
- Identify how own contribution to work team and leading the team serves as a role model for others.
- Identify how own contribution to work team and leading the team enhances the organisation’s image within the work team, the organisation and with clients/customers.
Liaise with management
- Explain how communication with line manager/management is kept open at all times.
- Explain how information from line manager/management is communicated to the team.
- Describe how information, issues, concerns and problems raised by the team and team members and not immediately able to be resolved within the team are communicated to line manager/management.
- Describe how issues, concerns and problems raised and communicated to line manager/management are followed up to ensure action is taken in response to these matters.
