8 - PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT (BSBFLM514, BSBFLM511B)

Duration: 2 days off the job

Overview

This program addresses the management of team members within a work team/group within an organisation. This includes determining work allocations, implementing performance management processes, addressing issues related to performance within work teams, and reviewing and evaluating effectiveness of human resources management processes in line with the objectives of the work team/group and the organisation.

Who will benefit?
This program is designed to assist frontline managers and team leaders to review and extend the skills, knowledge and ability needed to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate performance.


Structure
The outcomes for the program align to the unit of competency:

BSBFLM514 Manage people and are to:

Determine work allocation
• Consult relevant groups and individuals on work to be allocated and resources to be deployed.
• Allocate work to team members in accordance with operational plans, team members’ competencies, available pool of team members in a cost effective manner.
• Confirm performance standards, key performance indicators, codes of conduct, OH&S requirements, work outputs and processes with team members prior to commencement of work and when allocated to new roles, responsibilities or tasks within the team.
• Facilitate induction for new team members.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to support team members perform required roles.
• Provide team members with support and encouragement to assess own competencies and to undertake a planned learning and development pathway.

Implement performance management processes
• Access and seek clarification of organisational performance management system if and when required from relevant personnel within the organisation.
• Implement performance management processes across work team/team in accordance with documented processes and timelines.
• Provide informal and formal feedback to team and team members on performance against expected outcomes.

Address issues related to performance within work team
• Monitor and evaluate performance of team and team members on a continuous basis.
• Identify performance above expectations and reinforce through recognition and continuous feedback.
• Identify performance below expectations and negotiate a plan of action for improved performance, which is agreed and documented in accordance with performance management system.
• Monitor, document and report on action plan for improved performance in accordance with performance management system.
• Report continued performance below expectations to relevant personnel in accordance with performance management system and relevant organisational policies and procedures.

Address issues and problems arising within work team
• Identify potential and real issues and problems arising within the work team and with concerned parties.
• Identify interventions in accordance with organisational policies and legal requirements in response to identified issues and problems.
• Request advice, expertise and support from specialised human resource services to resolve issues and problems.
• Follow through issues and problems with concerned individuals/parties to resolution or an agreed conclusion.

Review and evaluate management of work team
• Collect and collate data and information on the effectiveness of human resource management processes within the work team/group for analysis.
• Analyse the effectiveness of human resource management processes within the work team/group and make recommendations to management arising from review and evaluation.
• Provide advice and input into decisions taken by management in relation to human resource management within work team.
• Implement and monitor agreed improvements and changes in line with objectives of work team/group and the organisation.

 

BSBFLM 511B Develop a Workplace Learning Environment and are to:

Create learning opportunities

- Develop and support workplace environments which facilitate opportunities for learning.
- Develop learning plans that are an integral part of individual/team performance plans.
- Develop learning plans that reflect the diversity of needs and learning opportunities.
- Facilitate access and participation for individuals and teams in learning opportunities.
- Liase effectively with training and development specialists to contribute to learning opportunities which enhances individual, team and organisational performance.

Facilitate and promote learning
- Use workplace activities as opportunities for learning.
- Use coaching and mentoring to contribute effectively to the development of workplace knowledge, skills and attitudes.
- Share the benefits of learning with others in the team/organisation.
- Recognise workplace achievement by timely and appropriate recognition, feedback and rewards.

Monitor and improve learning effectiveness
- Use feedback from individuals/teams to identify and introduce improvements in future learning arrangements.
- Negotiate adjustments with training and development specialists which result in improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of learning.
