The Diploma of Management BSB51107 reflects the role
of individuals who are engaged to manage the work of others or to add
value to or review management practices.
Their role may be in any area of the organisation. Typically
people in these roles will have considerable experience in their respective
industry coupled with an informed perspective of the specific work requirements
with their managerial sphere of expertise.
There are no pre requisites to this program however it
is preferable individuals be in a position to be able to apply learning
directly to their work context.
The qualification aims to assist individuals to:
- Develop the range of competencies required of managers
in changing economic environments.
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of managers.
- Evaluate the strategic issues managers’ play in assisting
their organisation.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide effective leadership
through the management of people, information, operations and resources
to achieve business objectives in a team-based environment

Time and Resource Management – 1 day
This course focuses on the need for managers to model
being organised, effective and skilled in order to efficiently manage
the work of others.
Topics covered include:
- developing personal work goals, plans and activities
that are synergistic with the organisation
- measuring personal performance in a range of contexts
and conditions
- prioritising competing demands to ensure goals and
objectives are met
- managing a suitable work/life balance
- ongoing assessment of personal skills and knowledge
to identify suitable development opportunities
- seeking feedback opportunities to develop competence
Team Management – 1 day
The course examines the role manager’s play in facilitating
work teams. It addresses the requirement for managers to build a systematic,
planned approach to team development.
Topics covered include:
- establishing common understanding of team purpose,
roles, responsibilities and accountabilities
- developing team performance plans to meet outcomes
expected
- developing policies, procedures and processes to ensure
team problems are recognised and addressed
- establishing and maintaining open communication with
all stakeholders
- evaluating team functioning
Operational Planning – 1 day
The aim of this course is to enable managers to research,
analyse and document the resource requirements needed to develop an organisation
or business unit operational plan.
Topics covered include:
- consultation with relevant stakeholders
- development of key performance indicators
- contingency planning and management
- planning and management of resources
- development, monitoring and review of performance systems
- budget analysis for profit and productivity performance
Performance Management – 1 day
This course helps managers develop the skills and knowledge
required to manage the performance of staff who report to them directly.
Topics covered include:
- consulting with individuals on work expectations
- confirming performance standards
- developing and agreeing performance indicators
- conducting risk analysis
- conducting performance appraisals
- providing feedback to staff
- supporting staff through coaching if necessary
Risk Management – 1 day
This course covers the performance outcomes, skills and
knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across the organisation
or for a specific business unit or area.
The course aligns with the AS/NZS 4360:2004 Risk Management
standard.
Topics covered include:
- review of organisational processes for undertaking
risk management
- determining scope for risk management
- review of policy contexts
- communicating with relevant stakeholders
- analysing and assessing risks
- determining and selecting the most appropriate options
for dealing with risk
- implementing and monitoring a risk action plan
- evaluation of the risk management process
Continuous Improvement – 1 day
This course details the requirement of managers to comprehensively
manage continual improvement in order to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
Topics covered include:
- developing strategies to ensure all team members are
actively encouraged and supported to participate in identifying opportunities
for continuous improvement
- establishing systems to ensure the continuous improvement
opportunities are captured and evaluated
- communicating continuous improvement strategies to
all stakeholders
- reporting mechanisms for outcomes of continuous improvement
efforts
Project Management – 1 day
The course focuses on the application of project management
skills and the requirement to meet times lines, quality standards and
budgetary limits set for the project.
Topics covered include:
- assessing project scope
- defining stakeholders
- clarifying project parameters
- developing project plan
- identifying and accessing appropriate project management
tools
- formulating a risk management plan
- maintaining project record keeping systems
- administering and monitor project against outcomes
- finalising and reporting project outcomes
Financial Management – 1 day
This course addresses the requirements for managers to
ensure that financial resources within a work team or business unit are
used effectively. This includes planning and implementing financial management
approaches to ensure monitoring against the budget is accurate and timely.
Topics covered include:
- accessing relevant financial plans for the work team
- clarifying budgets with relevant personnel
- preparing contingency plans
- implementing processes to monitor expenses and control
costs
- analysing data and information in order to make appropriate
recommendations for change
